I bought mine for a lot more than you are looking to spend, more than double that, but mine is really clean, and is an "IS" and has really low miles too -
Here is what I have: 1991 318is with >75000 miles and very clean inside and out, and I paid over $6k
Best of luck - hope you get a great car!
P.S. I know that I might have over paid a little, but where are you going to find a 17 year old car with less than 75000 miles? ESPECIALLY the last of the E30 BMW 3 series with no rust and never been hit!

I had to go to vegas to get mine. I looked all around chicago and everything that was out there just cost way too much. The cheap stuff was rusted really bad at the really cheap stuff I would off considered them to be parts cars. If you want a good clean E30 look out west the stuff out there is for the most part in decent shape and in some cases will come with some desirable mods. Good luck we need more E30's

Right now all it needs is a blower motor, and a look at the wiper system The wiper motor was replaced with a brand new one, but something went wrong, and i believe the wiper arm is just stuck or something. The blower motor is a very easy fix.
Other than that the car needs nothing. Has a little rust for how many miles are on the car, black leather interior, head unit, pioneer or alpine speakers, keyless entry, aftermarket muffler, K&N Drop in Air Filter.
A few parts that were replaced. Control arms, shocks, wiper motor, alternator, battery, tires, brake lines, and some other things I cant remember.
Car runs great, starts up on the coldest days, and gets out of any spot regardless how deep.
