As we all know, Bizaro21 is looking for an E30.  There's one pretty close to me, so I thought I'd get some more opinions on it - especially since so many people on this board either own, or have owned, an E30.

Here's the Craigslist page: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/car/524379640.html

And some pictures that the seller emailed to me...

check for rust in the trunk. Check in the wheel wells and under the spare. Also check under the edge of the doors and the battery tray. Check for oil in the filler bottle and water on the dip stick. CHECK WHEN THE TIMING BELT WAS CHANGED. If the owner does not know when it was changed plan on doing that first. Maybe even consider towing it home or having the repair done down there. I have heard of to many people buying these cars only to have the timing belt snap on the way home. Automatics can be replaced with a 5 speed swap. Its an E and not an I so the first mod I would be would be a chip. The E has torque but very low HP. The good chips out there are giving the E's about 12 hp for around 200. Hope this helps

Yeah, that was my thought, too.  I just talked to the guy - he's guessing it's got around 180k, so who knows.
And I am sure he is guessing as low as possible. Probably over 200k.

Although a 200k E30 does not scare me.  Its the unknown maintenance that does.

could be fan clutch going out. Lots of writes up on that fix and parts are cheap but from what i have heard its just a pita. Fuel pump is easy but will require removing back seat lots of write up on this on too. How about the steering was it tight if not most likely will need bushings and control arms. good luck these are all point to negotiate on.

Yeah, I think he said it was a clutch fan.

The steering felt pretty tight, though.

Thats a fan clutch Kolby ,,,,  Roll Eyes Ha Ha

If the car is priced right, get it. two door e30s are getting rare. Yeah, its a slushbox, but, its still fun. If it were me, Id get it.
