T6, one more cylinder, one more turbo...

« on: March 18, 2008, 08:28:45 AM »

Alright, here we go. Senior Project at my high school is a program that you sign up for and then at the end of your Senior year you get 4-5 weeks to spend pursuing a career of your choice. I signed up for Senior Project back in September and have completed every goal on time which is the requirement to actually go on Senior Project, (if you miss one of the things they need you to do with a deadline you are off of Senior Project, so this requires being on time also). Project starts April 14th, and instead of going to school I will be working out of my garage on my car. I currently have about $500 to spend on mods, (but some of the mods on the list are quite cheap, which include painting etc.) I am working and getting paychecks of about $130-40 every two weeks and doing some delivering so I get like $60-70 a night there (one night a week on average, just when a friend needs me to cover for them).

Goal 1: Create step-by-step tutorials about how to modify your own car, or build something for your own car.

Goal 2: Complete at least three of the following cosmetic modifications.
- Painting the interior trim pieces.
- Hidden DVD Player for passengers in back seat.
- Headlight Eyelids
- Re-finish and paint wheels.
- Tint side markers and paint accents on the inside of the headlight housing.
- Build a custom removable subwoofer box.
- Fully Detail interior and exterior.

Goal 3: Complete at least three of the following performance/repair modifications.
- Custom built exhaust
- Custom cold air intake with heat shield
- Front Mounted Intercooler (FMIC)
- Turbo blow off valve (BOV)
- Stage 0 (which includes the below listed)
      - replace the distributor cap and rotor
      - spark plugs wires
      - spark plugs
      - fuel filter
      - all vacuum lines
      - test compression
- Build and install a custom gauge pod for Air/Fuel ratio gauges and boost pressure gauge.
- Test the car on a dynamometer to help chart performance gains.
- Replace fuel injectors

Let me know if you have any ideas of which modification I should do, where to get supplies, or if there are other modifications that you think I should do (remember... on a budget). The modifications do not need to be strictly performance but can easily be visual/cosmetic because that is what kids like to see these days (EX: Pimp My Ride)

Painting the calipers was an idea I thought I would do, it's just not on my list. I'd need this especially if I'm running the Enkeis which are a more open wheel.

I already have HID's, LOL.

But yeah, I'm sorta worried I won't have enough to do, but I think I can get by on painting this or that for a few hours here or there.

Good to know, I may come to you for the use of some stuff, but more than likely if I get the wood at Home Depot I can have it cut roughly to size, or I can cut it here sine I'm not sure it will be anything too fancy.

your gonna do this to your volvo?

Fact

i actually just finished baking my new EDM headlights open. So its really fresh in my memory now.

I may ask you for some advice if I need it, good to know someone knows how to do it in case I can't.

I have one in the car currently, but the pod was custom made and really doesn't look good and the routing I chose for it is pretty ghetto. So for senior project I'll be rerouting all of it and changing the position of the gauge (center speaker vent maybe, or possible far back left corner of the dash way up by the windshield). I'd be glad to help you out sometime if you need help. (do you have side curtain airbags in the a-pillar?)

I have done both of these and they are not bad.

All the silver parts used to be black rubber -

Detailing is easy and I am sure you have that down.

I think you should go with a custom sub box.  I made a couple in woodshop in highschool and it isn't that hard.  I am sure someone on here can help you do an excellent job (I am not very good haha).

Let me know if you need and help with the painting or detailing.

I think the painting I have down, I used to do RC cars and models so I have done quite a bit of paint myself. Detailing I think I have down, thats just so that at the end of project the car looks sick. What did you use to paint those trim pieces?

The woodwork I am not worried about S More 07 (Jim) is my Uncle and owns a woodworking shop so if I need help (which I'm not sure I will, I'm pretty handy with wood, lol) I got him as a backup.
