See the official information in the link below for all the details.

Lets make this an official IE event folks. Its far enough off that we can all try to make arrangements.

Use the poll here to indicate your intentions. Thanks!

here is in a quote the original post by: Melissa

This is shaping up to be an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G event.. I live pretty darn close to this area so I know I'll be there for sure.. trying to make a weekend of it with my dad (or at least one day with my dad)  He was there on opening day 50 years ago and has tons of stories!  He grew up in Chicago but his family had a small summer cottage on the Fox River in Algonquin.

Anyway the event is free to get in!! (that's good for us unemployed folks! lol!)

Adam, I had a DOH moment on the way home today.. I could try for 78, 28, then 69 for the plates!

I got a sweet deal.. my dad didn't want the 928 anymore so he gave it to me!  He keeps in his garage, does all the repairs, pays for the plates and insurance too!

stupid okay where is the smilie laughing his MF head off  Huh?  I need one now.. Adam I think the heat was frying our brains today.. Meadowdale is celebrating it's 50th anniversary this year so wouldn't that mean that they opened in 1958  Huh?  double DOH for me today! lol!!

anyway.. a few neighbors were very curious about the raceway and I knew my dad was familiar with it so I emailed him asking about it and this was his responce.. sounds pretty cool.. wish this track was still around..........

Yes,

I went to the opening race at the Meadowdale Raceway. A guy in a Ferrari roadster (convertible) flipped it at the hairpin curve (before the Monza Wall), and was killed. There was no grass. just bare dirt. Everyone and their cars were full of dust, at day's end.

The winner was Lance Reventlow, heir to the Revlon cosmetics fortune (and the son of a famous, female movie star, think it was Betty Hutton), and second was his teamate and mechanic, Chuck Daigh. They were racing some very fast, Corvette based, home-made race cars, called Scarabs.

Went to another race with Uncle Bob. There was some grass growing, and the wind wasn't so bad. A guy in an Austin Healey 3000 flipped his car, end over end 2-3 times. It landed right-side up. He got out of the car, sat by the side of the track, and lit up a cigarette. We were about 100 feet away from the action.

It was a beautiful race track, but it was too close to the homes being built nearby.

One feature was the Monza Wall, a 180 degree turn, so wide, that most competitors could run full-bore around it, at the bottom of the turn. It was 45 degree banked, at the outer edge, but there was no need to ride up so far. A few racers rode the top edge of the wall, just to impress us spectators.

The exit from there was a mile-long straightaway.Back then, around 1959, the cars were going over 200 MPH, before they had to shut down for a fairly sharp, downhill  turn of about 250 degrees. (That's where the guy flipped the Healey.)

By comparison, Road America, in Elkhart, Wisconsin, wasn't much. But, It is still around.

Wow, that was very cool. Is your dad going to do some special writing for this event? Like recounting some more famous moments of the track?

Do we know where there are some collection of pics from earlier races? Rather than just googling, I thought a local museum may have some.

Anyone know?

Lookin' forward to sportin' my new plates this month in anticipation for the show!

I should get another set for the TT, Hmmmmmm, I'll call tomorrow and see if ANY numbers are left.
