I know my aunt had a car that had antique plates and she just flat out refused to drive the thing because she was afraid to get pulled over.  My dad will take the Porsche from Woodstock to Ned Brown woods (close to Woodfield) without any issues..  I get pulled over pretty often in any vehicle not just the Porsche (lead foot, good thing for big boobs, blonde hair, and great acting/flirting abilities).  This is the first year we've had the antique plates and I know to use the excuse that I'm headed to either have the car worked on or to a car show... but what are the actual rules/guidelines?  I've googled it a few times and really don't come up with anything other than the state of Illinois offers antique plates.. great.. now what?

I got a sweet deal.. my dad didn't want the 928 anymore so he gave it to me!  He keeps in his garage, does all the repairs, pays for the plates and insurance too!

Illinois doesn't have a mileage restriction, but antique plates are supposed to be used only to drive the car to/from meets and shows and the like, so if the police stop you they may ask. The idea behind the AV plates is to enable someone to drive an old car without the required safety features of a modern vehicle, like seat belts, turn signals, bumpers and so on, since the car will only be on the road a limitied amount of time. If you're going to be driving it often rather than a garage queen and your car was made when such features are standard, you shouldn't bother with AV plates as it will lead to you getting stopped more often, especially on the interstate.

I got away with driving almost everyday one summer in my old Ventura when I had it.  I don't recommend it though.

Yeah, I don't have a clue why my dad was so up on getting antique plates.   When he bought them I had been driving it 3-4 days a week to work and back which was only 7 miles one way.. but it was a nice summer treat for me to drive it.
