Right, so here's the problem I'm having....

A couple of months ago, the odometer on my 1993 Volvo 850 stopped clocking miles, and I can't figure out why. I'm pretty sure that it's a blown fuse, but I don't know how to access this fuse. My instinct says to disassemble the dash board (there are two screws on the underside of the dashboard behind the steering wheel), but I don't know if that'll give me access to it. Does anybody have a suggestion/method as to how to change this fuse. And if it's not a fuse, what could the problem be? All replies are appreciated.

first, i would check with the manual of the car as to where the fuse box is, and find the diagram.

then just pull out that fuse, check to see if the link between the two connectors is broken, if it is, replace the fuse, if its not, it might be a bigger problem like the relay switch or the odo jsut went bad.

if you are not good with electrical work, i would take it to a specialist shop and have them check it out.

is it a "rolling" analog odo or a digital odo? Also, does your speedo work?

analog odo

digital odo

its a 93, so most likely a analog odo.

It is an analog "rolling" odometer.... Tongue
...such a pain
@ SPOWRD: my speedo and tach work fine (although the speedo doesn't jump up too quickly Grin)
Only one other question...

The little bar below the speedo and the tach isn't illuminated.... (it displays time and temp.)

Why is this? I think that hte bulb has gone, but I'm not sure....

you're probably right about the bulb. But if you have an analog tach I'm 99% sure there is no fuse for that. AND if your speedometer is working fine then you most likely have a problem in your cluster that is mechanical.

pretty sure this might be your problem:

simple fix

as for taking out the dash to get at the cluster:

850 is pretty much the same as the s70. might be a difference here or there

I would be the house on that as well. The bimmer has that issue as well. I had to buy a WHOLE new cluster component just to get the gear. I found if from a BMWCCA member so the cost wasnt too bad.
