We recently saw spy images of the E63 AMG version of the next-generation Mercedes Benz E-Class testing in Germany, then camouflaged prototypes for the new 'Estate' wagon were spotted, and earlier today we brought you a barely disguised shot of the sedan. Now what appear to be official photos of the 2010 Mercedes E-Class have leaked onto the web.

The main differences at first glance include the design of the new grille and headlights. The next E-Class is expected to debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show before going on sale later that same year as a 2010 model. The wagon variant will hit the market less than 12 months after the launch of the sedan and is expected to feature a widened C-pillar and a chrome strip across its rear.

The base E-Class sedan and Estate lineup will be powered by a 184hp (137kW) four-cylinder turbo engine, with the range topping out with a 550hp (410kW) V8 E63 AMG. New to the lineup will be a direct injection petrol V6 model, a 354hp (264kW) diesel V8 version and the all-new hybrid model that’s expected to arrive after 2010. This hybrid will feature the same V6 petrol-electric powertrain as seen in the new S400 BlueHybrid model. A MacPherson strut and multi-link active suspension set-up is also expected to appear, as well as more powerful brakes and a more accurate steering system.

The interior of the 2010 E-Class will hopefully continue Mercedes’ recent return to form in the quality department, and is expected to feature a mix of elements from the S and C-class models including a centrally mounted color screen as well as an in-dash unit between the speedo and tachometer.

The color is nice, cannot see too much difference in the styling though. Perhaps that is intended. A smooth evolution rather than a drastic restyle.

I know BMW does it and I still cannot see the logic. But in this benz, they have five engine type for this one model which includes the coming hybrid. Isnt that expensive in terms of production? I think they should stck with the 6, and 8 banger and then have the AMG option (if they must). The diesel is nice also.

BMW has so many engines sized for each model its nuts!! Too many choices is not always a good thing.

Lastly, the last sentence stated that it is hoped that Merc's recent return to quality form will be continued?? WTF? Did they take a turn away recently (rhetorical question)? Wow, thats a ding on them for having slid a bit no?

And because Im the grammar nazi, that last sentence was one hell of a run on.  Roll Eyes

The more I look at the posted pic, the more I see that high end benz, brain fart .... name? The gazillion dollar one.

Still, does anyone know if Merc's are moving towards an AWD version?

In and amongst all the releases for new vehicles and concepts for this month’s Detroit Auto Show, Mercedes Benz has decided to quietly reveal details for its all-new E-Class sedan, which is set to go on sale in Europe this March following a debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The new model features more than 20 new or further technical developments, with a bevy of advanced safety features including Attention Assist, Adaptive Main Beam Assist and automatic emergency braking.

The car also sports a new bodyshell that is 30% more rigid than the outgoing model, as well as further improved seats and a newly developed suspension whose shock absorbers automatically adjust to the current driving situation. The optional air suspension also now works together with an electronic damping system.

Engineers have also made the new E-Class much more efficient, with direct-injection technology enabling the range to be, on average, 23% more fuel-efficient. The most frugal model is rated at 44.3mpg (5.3L/100km) for fuel-economy. All the engines also meet the EU5 emission standard, and in the case of the E350 BlueTEC the emissions are already below the EU6 limits planned for 2014.

The range of engines available for the new E-Class comprises four, six and eight-cylinder units with outputs from 100 kW/136 hp to 386 kW/525 hp – the top end model being the E63 from AMG. The four-cylinder engines are newly developed direct-injection units, which develop a higher output and torque than the comparable V6-engines of the preceding series despite a smaller displacement.

The top model in the new E-Class diesel range is the six-cylinder E350 CDI with an output of 170 kW/231 hp, which uses 0.5 litres per 100 kilometres less fuel than the previous E320 CDI.

Safety features include an optional Adaptive Main Beam Assist, which uses a camera on the windscreen to recognise oncoming traffic and vehicles moving ahead, and controls the headlamps so that their beams do not reach the other vehicle. Also new is a Lane Safety package, which includes a Blind Spot Assist feature and Lane Departure warning system that causes the steering wheel to vibrate gently if it detects the car is leaving its lane.

Night View Assist from the S-Class is also available as an optional extra for the new E-Class. Engineers have improved this system with a special pedestrian detection function - as soon as Night View Assist Plus recognises pedestrians ahead of the car, they are highlighted in the onboard display to provide a greatly enhanced warning effect. One other feature is Attention Assist, which monitors how drowsy a driver is using a steering wheel angle sensor and can alert them if they start to dose off.

With seven airbags as standard, belt tensioners, belt force limiters, crash-responsive head restraints and ISOFIX child seat attachments, the new E-Class has even more extensive safety features than the preceding model. Another new feature is the active bonnet, which raises the rear section of the bonnet by 50mm within milliseconds of an accident to protect pedestrians. A similar system has been used in the Jaguar XK and Nissan GT-R.

For improved comfort and style, Mercedes has added seat-piping, a new massage function from the S-Class, and an optional rear seat unit consisting of two individual seats.

Standard specifications include 16in light-alloy wheels in a nine-spoke design, eucalyptus or embossed aluminum trim (optional) and a four-spoke multifunction steering wheel lined Nappa leather with chrome inserts. Also included in the standard equipment is the Audio 20 CD infotainment system with a twin receiver, CD-player, eight loudspeakers and a Bluetooth interface for a mobile phone. The colour display in the centre of the dashboard can be operated by the driver or front passenger, using the Controller on the centre console.

Once again, the E-Class can be ordered in the Elegance or Avantgarde lines of trim, and there is also an AMG sports package that adds a bodykit, sport seats with enhanced lateral support, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with shift paddles, perforated disc brakes with the Mercedes logo and 18in light-alloy wheels in an AMG design.

The specifications listed are primarily for the European models, though we do expect some of the above trims to come to the U.S. Official details for the new 2010 U.S. E-class will be revealed closer to the launch date.

looks pretty nice. i like the edgy styling. i definitely cannot wait until the E63 AMG and a rumored Black Series.

One of the hottest cars set to grace the stands at next month’s Geneva Motor Show has been revealed today in the form of the all-new 2010 Mercedes Benz E-Class Coupe. The svelte two-door is the hotly anticipated replacement for the aging CLK Coupe, which has been falling behind against newer competition such as the Audi A5 and E92 BMW 3-series Coupe, and on initial inspection it looks like the latest E-Class Coupe has the competition nailed in the styling department.

The Coupe’s styling is based heavily on the new 2010 E-Class Sedan, unveiled at last month’s Detroit Auto Show, and it shares most of its engines and its interior with the four-door as well. Thankfully, the new E-Class Coupe also retains the pillar-less glasshouse design and fully retractable side windows of the previous generation CLK.

Coupe interior has been lifted straight out of the recently revealed E-Class Sedan At the same time the most aerodynamic variant of these achieves an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.24Cd – a figure that is comparable with cars like the Toyota Prius and upcoming Chevrolet Volt.

The range of engines available for the new E-Class Coupe comprises four, six and eight-cylinder units with outputs from 150kW/200hp to 285kW/382hp - the top end model being the E500/550. Expect to see an AMG version, however, debut with at least 500hp (373kW) later in the year. The four-cylinder engines are newly developed direct-injection units, which develop a higher output and torque than the comparable V6-engines of the preceding series despite a smaller displacement.

Kicking off the lineup is the E250 CDI four-cylinder diesel, which has an output of 200hp (150kW) and 369lb-ft (500Nm) of torque. It is the most fuel-efficient engine in the lineup and is rated at 44mpg (5.3L/100km). This is joined by a 200hp (150kW) four-petrol with 229lb-ft (310Nm) of torque.

Moving up the ladder is the E350 CDI, which sports a 228hp (170kW) and 398lb-ft (540Nm) V6 diesel, and a E350 CGI petrol V6 with 288hp (215kW) and 270lb-ft (365Nm) of torque. Finally, there is the E500/550 flagship with a 5.5L petrol V8 churning out 382hp (285kW) and 390lb-ft (530Nm) of torque.

Also fitted to the E-Class Coupe is Mercedes’ Agility Control active suspension set-up. This automatically adjusts the firmness of the suspension given the driving conditions and works together with a user-controllable selective damper setting called Dynamic Driving. Other technologies include drowsiness detection warning systems, a pop-up bonnet, road sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive self-dimming headlights.

Inside, the car picks up newly developed sport seats with electric adjustment for seat height and backrest angle as standard. In conjunction with electric seat adjustment with memory (an optional extra), the front seats are also equipped with electro-pneumatically adjustable four-way lumbar supports. For the rear seats, Mercedes has included a folding function to increase storage.

The new E-Class Coupe will first hit European showrooms this May and should be on sale in the U.S. by the third-quarter of the year. Expect pricing and availability details to be revealed following the car’s debut at the upcoming Geneva event.

i don't know about this. the space between the B and C-pillars is way too large. its like they just welded the 2 extra doors. i might have to see it in Black Series trim in order to come up with a verdict for this car lol.

The all-new 2010 Mercedes Benz E63 AMG is expected to make its world debut in just a few days at the New York Auto Show but the performance saloon has already won a reader's choice award for best sports car run by Germany’s Sport Auto magazine. In honor of the decoration, Mercedes released a teaser image for the new E63 just ten days ago, and today the full package has been unveiled - a bit ahead of schedule.

In addition to the new bumper, alloy wheel design and oversized cross-drilled brake discs revealed in the teaser, the imagery shows the car's new E-Class family resemblance, along with its unique elements, including the expected aggressive full body kit and wider, more purposeful stance.

Mercedes and its AMG engineers have been testing prototypes for the E-Class extensively – even recruiting former McLaren F1 ace Mika Häkkinen and race driver Klaus Ludwig to fine-tune it.

Despite current concerns about global warming and a possible end to the horsepower war between Germany’s in-house tuners, the new E63 will continue with the potent hand-built 6.2L V8, although the rest of the car’s mechanical package is expected to have been given a major makeover. Power has been bumped up to 518bhp (386kW) and 465lb ft (630Nm). Engineers will be focusing more on improve handling and chassis strength, borrowing a number of features from the new C63 AMG. Despite the increase in power, however, the car is now 12% more efficient, checking in at 18.6mpg.

The sporty AMG model also gets a 56mm wider front track and unique steering ratio compared to the regular E-Class, plus MacPherson strut and multi-link active suspension.

While the new E63 saloon is expected to go on sale soon after its New York debut, the Estate wagon version of the car isn’t due to arrive in showrooms until sometime next year.

this car is really starting to grow on me. there's just something about it that makes it look like such a beast. i'd like to see how this does up against its Cadillac rival, the CTS-V.

now all i'm waiting for is the upcoming next generation BMW 5-series in M trim.
