Insanely light, handling-centric track day vehicles have boomed in popularity in recent years, as evidenced by the rise of Ariel's Atom, the KTM X-Bow, and the plethora of Lotus 7-inspired roadsters. Now Racer X Design has revealed its RZ Formula design study, tilting the design of track day toys even closer to the formula car end of the spectrum.

Little information on what might power the car has come from the designer, but the focus of the car is light weight and efficiency, much like the Caparo T1. Shunning top speed - a horsepower-restricted figure - in favor of acceleration, which is governed by power-to-weight ratios, the RZ Formula also features adjustable aerodynamic surfaces for 'on demand' down force when at the track, but more efficient driving when ultimate grip isn't as important.

The company has no production plans for the RZ Formula at this time, instead continuing on with its practice of designing cars with the intent of pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

i'm REALLY excited about this car. i mean look at it, its closer to an F1 car than the Ariel Atom and Caparo T1 are. i can't wait to see what's going to power it either. that's it, Racer X Design is my new small manufacturer. they're KC-427 Concept and Bugatti Type 12-2 Streamliner are some really amazingly designed cars.

I was going to say why is it a two seater. Then I realized that it is (I think) supposed to be road legal as well, right? Something that small and light, they may be able to use a powerplant similar to whats in the lotus cars. THat toya 4 banger with a super charger.

the 2ZZ-FE is definitely a great engine. but we could also see the GM ECOtec LNF (Cobalt SS Turbo) and many other engines. i wouldn't mind seeing them use a Hartley V8. 2.8L, close to 15,000 revs, and 400hp stock N/A.

15k?? Wow, I go to look into that. I never heard of that one. Harley makes that here in milwaukee? One of original members Carl works at a harley dealership here in chicago. That place is HUGE! Its a shame he left, he has enormous amounts of harley information. Him and Lee would have hit it off so good. A shame. Also the other original member JustAdam works there as well. The funny thing is that despite Carl and Adam both working for Harley, the ride Kaw's. hehe

lol HarTley, not Harley. they're an aftermarket company that specializes in Suzuki streetbike engines such as the 1300cc found in the Hayabusa. the Hartley V8 is based on the Hayabusa's 1300cc. its basically what the M70 V12 was for BMW. 2 inline engines bolted together to make a V-configured engine.

^^^ huh?

And yeah, 15,000 revs is easy. As long as you have good tolerances, and very little stroke. What displacement is the engine, and how many cyls?
