SPEEDTV.comOn Saturday at Daytona International Speedway, General Motors unveiled the 2010 Camaro SS that will serve as the pace car for this year’s Daytona 500.
The new Camaro will be the first to pace the Daytona 500 since 1969 and only the third in company history. Production of the all-new Camaro is slated to begin next month at GM’s assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario.
“Chevy has been a great partner of the Daytona 500 for more than 30 years, and the Camaro is an automotive icon,’” said Speedway President Robin Braig. “This 2010 model will set the tone for a 21st century sports car, and that’s a perfect fit to lead the pack at the ‘Great American Race.’’
The pace car is the more powerful SS version of the Camaro, with a 426-horsepower V-8. The base model comes with the same 300-horsepower V-6 that’s used in the Cadillac CTS.
