Motor AuthorityPorsche’s current iteration of the 911 has been around for almost four years and is currently in the process of a mid-cycle update. We’ve already seen the introduction of the facelifted Carrera and Carrera S, AWD 4 and 4S models, as well as the GT3, but still in the works are the more extreme Turbo, track-honed GT3 RS and the GT2 range-topper – the latter captured here in these latest spy shots.
It will be hard to spot the difference between the new and the old as the images reveal. This is because most of the planned changes will be taking place under the sheet-metal.
Thanks to the introduction of a new direct-injection system, power levels should see a slight bump up to 550hp (410kW) from the current car’s 530hp (395kW). In line with the changes in the rest of the facelifted 911 range, the engine in the updated GT2 will also sport bigger combustion chambers, a new crankshaft and an upgraded oil and water pump.
Acceleration times over the current model would likely be improved, especially if Porsche adds its new Doppelkupplung dual-clutch system, but a conventional six-speed manual is likely to remain the only option given the intended purpose of the race track legend. Still, with the extra power on board the car should slip to the 3.5 second bracket for the 0-62mph dash.
The GT2 will also once again be based on the Carrera 4 body and should feature the same widened track, carbon-fiber interior and RWD powertrain as the current model. Styling updates include new LED daytime running lights, revised taillights, a cleaner front end with larger intakes in the lower skirt, and a new lip spoiler. Expect to see the new model make its debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

why do i think that MA is wrong and that this is really the facelifted GT3RS? because i see the infamous GT3RS center exhaust and trademarked wing. the current GT2 doesn't have any of those and they just said most of the changes would be under the sheet metal. changing the exhaust position and giving it a new wing would call for extreme exterior changes.
so anybody agree?
