Wanna twin screw?

« on: April 28, 2009, 11:06:06 PM »

got this idea from Garage419 on one of their new videos covering the GM section of the New York Auto Show floor. what they basically did was go around to GM vehicles and say their opinion on a certain model saying if its Good GM or Bad GM. what they basically mean is that if its good, then it'll sell well and would be a good decision on GM's behalf. if its bad, then it won't sell and would make GM go into a deeper hole than they are in now.

now my way of doing this is that you should only list 10 good and 10 bad current/upcoming vehicles from GM.Pontiac is already dead. Hummer and Saab are still looking for a buyer. Saturn is still unsure of their future. so no need to post any of those models. also, post a reason why you think its good or bad.

Good:
1. 2010 Chevy Camaro - not listing it because i'm absolutely in love with it. i'm listing it because there's going to be a high demand for it in RS and SS trims.
2. 2010 Chevy Cruze - successor to the Cobalt and already promising great gas mileage. compacts sell.
3. 2010 Chevy Aveo5 - hey, it might be an Aveo, but it'll sell. its a sub-compact being sold in this current gas crisis.
4. 2009 Chevy Malibu - one of Toyota's main problems is this car because it beats the Camry in everything, including non-blandish looks.
5. 2011 Chevy Orlando - replacing the HHR, i see this car doing VERY well as a people carrier. can't wait to see how it does against the current Dodge Caravan.
6. Chevy Silverado - always has been one of their best selling models and America needs more work trucks. they're not going to go anywhere.
7. Chevy Corvette (all trim levels) - being the flagship model for Chevy and not missing one beat through its lifetime, i don't see this car failing at all. it might not have any competition come 2012 with the Viper leaving Dodge, but i have a feeling it'll still live on. it lived on WAY before the Viper even appeared as a glint in Chrysler's eyes.
8. 2010 Cadillac SRX - it might be an SUV/CUV, but its a Cadillac. badge whores are going to scoop these up.
9. 2009 Cadillac CTS/CTS-V - its current selling REALLY well and in V-trim, its killing the German super saloon market with how well its selling. its great for an American manufacturer to target outside competition with big names.
10. 2010 Buick Lacrosse - based on the same Epsilon II platform, it'll be one helluva performer in mileage and looks.

i'll come up with my bad later after i've given it a little thought. lets see your lists now.

Well here goes the BMW fanboi.

I am clearly not up to the challenge of GM products, but, having driven cars since 1978, I have a little history.

Aaron, you left buick out of the equation. I am not a buick fan, but, I understand GM is keeping that brand because world wide, it is a big seller.

Given that, the buick sedans, all of them (in my limited knowledge opinion) are going to be good. With pontiac gone (soon), buick may step up like caddy and get some hi perf cars in the line up.

The trucks, well, I am not a fan of GM trucks. My first love is dodge followed by ford. Just experience on my part having owned several makes.

The cobalt, and its succesor, despite the shit I spouted about it previously should remain a good seller.

The camaro seems as if it has become a hit with the high demand for it despite the economy. Given the camaro or a challenger, I would go dodge. Thats just me. Both look to be excellent vehicles given what I know.

The others mentioned, frankly I have not heard anythnig about them thus I reserve judgement.

To tell the truth, the wife and I are looking at a full size GM (either chevy or gmc) van. We will be purchasing a full size conversion van near the end of this year and retiring the dodge caravan to utility duties. Thats more my wifes decision, she'll pick that one out and we'll go with it. Those full size buses are nice with all the toys for the kids, all four of them. Hell, I wouldnt minds piloting a full size express here and there.

Sorry buddy if this is not exactly what was required for this, let me know and I'll modify my response.

yeah, i wanted you to list the 10 models that you think are good or bad for GM's future.

and btw, i didn't miss Buick. i listed 1, which is the only one i currently like right now. the Lucerne and Enclave are pointless IMO. the Enclave is based on the same Sigma platform as the new SRX, which as you see, is pointless because that's 2 luxury CUVs based on the same platform under the same corporation. the Lucerne is just an Impala in Buick guise. even in Super trim, its an Impala SS.

now i do agree with you about them bringing back performance Buicks. but i don't see them putting one on the Zeta platform (Camaro, G8) since those were the last of the American Zetas. MAYBE on the Sigma platform though (CTS is on the same platform). i'd also like to point out that we should wait 5 years before we see another performance GM since they shut down the performance division.
