« on: May 08, 2009, 07:57:53 PM »

Took these earlier today, still uploading the rest of the shots. I went to a couple new parks and found some nice spots. C&C welcome as always!  Grin

You know the best building to shoot would have been old center out at Elgin mental health center. I worked there in the early 90's just when they were tearing it donw. That thing should have been preserved if nothing else as in a haunted house for hollywood. If you google it, there is some information, but, back then before digi photos, it was cumbersome to get shots. Man .... that place was awesome, built during the civil war and housed THOUSANDS of patients in all kinds of conditions, history for sure.

funny cuz Michael ran the new Elgin mental health facility for years!!   If he still was running that we could have set up "private tours"... instead I just asked him for free rubber room rights! lol!

I got a sweet deal.. my dad didn't want the 928 anymore so he gave it to me!  He keeps in his garage, does all the repairs, pays for the plates and insurance too!

Yeah really, I hijacked a good photo thread. But when Eric asked about abadoned buildings, the first thing I thought of was this ....

Its not there anymore, it was torn down in the mid nineties, and yes Michael was there but I think after they tore it down. That place has had more more memories than ANY thing else in Northern illinois.

Back to you Jon .....  thumbsup

It's all good everyone. I have no problem with my threads going off topic. Hey, it's all about photography right?  thumbsup

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback. Once I get the rest of the images done, I'll upload them and post them up.

Jon,

Tis link is to a section of bimmerforums that you have to have an ID to view.
I have spent hours looking at these photos, not necessarily for their quality, but the content.
Would it be cool or what to find places like this in Chicago or suburbs to shoot. If you ever need a hand let me know.

Im sure with your skills you could outdo this guy without a problem.

[rant-on] Not in your wildest dreams! This place is the pits! The "summers" are okay up here, I love the city, and there is some beautiful scenery here... but I can't live in this place. It's too cold too long here for me, and the "summers" don't get hot enough. That's why I Florida. Ten months of warm/hot weather, and two months of warm/cool weather. It's sad (to me) that I left here the day after Christmas and drove how to Jax for a couple weeks, and the day I got there I was walking around in shorts and a t-shirt cause it was 83 degrees outside... on December 27th! That's my kind of weather. And the day we drove back from Florida, after a 17 hour trip, we cant even pull in our drive-way cause there's two feet of snow on the ground!! Talk about a kick in the nuts! As far as I'm concerned, anything west of Tallahassee is Alabama, and anything north of the Florida/Georgia line is CANADA! [/rant-off]
 Grin

But anyway, enough about my dislikes for the cold and Canada. I would love to do a shoot like this with you guys. You all know the area better than I do. You find a place, and pick a date and time, and as long as I have that day off and no plans, I have not problem spending the whole day doing a shoot for you guys.
