Ok I need some VW expert advice.

My wife has a 2005 jetta wagon and the taillight and brake light are burned out. I got the bulbs, but cannot figure out how to remove the lense to get at the old ones. I read the manual and the stupid thing says to have your authorized VW dealer replace these for you. Bull$hit! I change mine on the Bimmers all the time and they are very easy and intuitive to access.

Help!

heres what you do, pop out the pins that hold the rear side carpet on, there should be a few screws holding the entire lense to the car, remove those, take the whole assembly out, and replace the bulbs, thats how i did it on my car, it should be the same.

Thanks Chris.

I didnt see anything in the back that could remove the carpeting as in pins, clips, etc ... But, I was tired and not much patience last night so I gave up easily. I'll check again and see whats there.

if there are no pins, it should just pop right off.

That is how it was on my Jetta to.  Should be simple, although the bulbs burnt out every 6 months or so for some reason.  I hated that car and it left a BAAAAD taste in my mouth for VW's.  Currently I have vowed to never buy another one again.  I'm sure that will change.

One way to reduce that is to NOT use 1156 bulbs even though they fit and work. Look for the P21W that were stock. Pep boys carries them. They draw fewer amps and thus don't overload the system. A system where the bulb filaments are the weakest link.

The lightbulb master!

Light bulb update.

First the wife and I were able to get the stupid bracket out, she was because her hands are smaller than mine. Secondly, I broke a stupid clip trying to reinsert it into position. VW stuck a plastic something or another behind the panel that leave only enough room for a 5 year olds hand. Or my wifes because she was determined.

Once we got he bracket out, I realized the moron at advanced auto gave me the wrong bulb! It was for a jetta sedan. I specifically said WAGON (idiot!).

So I was able to secure the correct bulb, I looked myself this time.

The bulb is in, the bracket has one broken clip (of two) and I have decided never to buy a VW for myself. Sorry guys, too complicated for my simple mind. FYI. My wife will continue to own them.

BMW engineering FTW!

And on a side note, while I was working on th ecar, I stuck a IE sticker on the rear window. And I stuck my last one on my kiddie mover the dodge caravan!! Whoo Hoo!

I need more stickers guys.

Glad you got it changed. You think you needed small hands for that wait til the drivers side headlamp goes.
I decided that taking the front bumper off and removing the headlamp is the EASY way.

SHEEEEEEIT ... If thats it, when the bulb goes, Im trading in the car.
