Quote
A Chery Amulet sedan was "one of the worst performers...ever," in a crash test conducted by AvtoRevu, a leading Russian auto magazine, according to a Wall Street Journal story.

Russia is China's biggest auto-export market, and the $9,000 Amulet is the top-selling Chinese model in Russia, selling 10,119 cars in the first half of 2007, up from 702 in the same period a year earlier.

A state-accredited safety testing center passed the Amulet in the "rudimentary tests" required for cars sold in Russia -- where price typically outweighs safety for budget-minded consumers -- and the car remains on the road today, the WSJ said.

"We have never seen such terrible deformation of a car's body," AvtoRevu reporter Yury Vetrov, who observed the tests, wrote in his article.

Although Chery contends that the test was biased, the outcome adds another product to the list of Chinese exports whose safety is being called into question, the WSJ said.

Cerberus-owned Chrysler last month finalized a deal with Chery to develop a range of small cars for sale in the U.S. The Amulet, one of the oldest models in Chery's lineup, isn't slated for sale in the U.S.

Steven Landry, executive vice president of marketing and sales at Chrysler, told the WSJ that he realizes customers have concerns about Chinese-made products and that is why Chrysler will have a lot of its staff involved in the development of the Chery-made vehicles to ensure quality and safety.

Just saw it. I cannot wait till this thing hits the market, Im running right out and trading in my crappy german cars for that jewel!

Do you realize that if it ever came here at the price point that I am sure will undercut everything, thousands of fools will buy that?

I posted this on another site some time ago, this is another car similar to the amulet.

This one hit a squirrel ... and I understand that the squirrel walked away from the accident.

Another view.

I got a Daewoo Lanos rental when I got hit in the golf. Rearended a minivan in the rain because the brakes and tire sucked. Then after they said just keep driving it the damage is minor the hood folded back over the roof on 83 at 60mph good quality cars those

lol^ these are just like the cars i'm going to be importing here in the next year or so... very small and unsafe.

here are the cars i'm bringing over:

Fiat 126p

1974 Communistic East Germany Trabant

last but not least: Communist built Russian AUTOSOVIET Lada

i should have 2 Fiat 126p's  in the U.S. by next summer, the Trabant and the Lada might take a little longer
